Hi, my name is Kathy. I am a legal assistant here at the Lavin Law Group. One question we get asked quite frequently is: what documents should every adult have? So, I’m going to talk to you today a little bit about those important documents.
We’ll start off with the financial power of attorney. A financial power of attorney, in the event of a sudden illness or a reason where you would need assistance helping to keep the lights on or to take care of financial transactions, that’s always important to have one. And it is a proactive document that it’s better to have it in advance than when you need it last minute in a crisis.
In addition, the healthcare power of attorney—you’re assigning a trusted individual to make medical or healthcare decisions for you should that arise. Again, that is a proactive document; we recommend you go ahead and have that taken care of in advance as we age.
Lastly, a last will and testament is always a good idea to have to assign your wishes in writing versus the state to do that when you would pass away. So, it would designate who your distribution would be for your assets when you pass away. All of these documents can be taken care of here at Lavin Law Group. Feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or you would have interest in pursuing those.
