The 5-year Look-Back Period for Medicaid Eligibility

Understanding the 5-Year Medicaid Look-Back Rule

Hello, my name is Christie Doss and I am the Medicaid specialist at the Lavin Law Group. Often I am asked about the five-year look-back period for Medicaid eligibility.

The five-year look-back period is the date five years back from my Medicaid application. The county will look at any transactions made within five years of the Medicaid long-term care application. This includes any loans or large gifts that was given away during this time. This could cause Medicaid ineligibility for a certain amount of months depending on the amount of money that was transferred.
